Alligators Nest is managed by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) within the Tully Gorge National Park as a day-use area. It is also part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and is managed to preserve the area’s natural, cultural and scenic values while providing nature-based recreational opportunities for visitors. 

Alligators Nest day-use area is a refreshing stop for travellers. Relax by rainforest streams and enjoy the serenity of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The rainforest fringe of the picnic area, adorned with lilies, palms, fern-leaved tamarinds (Sarcotoechia serrata) and fishbone water ferns (Blechnum nudum), offers a picturesque place for a picnic or swim.  The picnic area and toilets are wheelchair accessible. 

Take a refreshing swim in the creek and enjoy a picnic — picnic tables, toilets and a gas barbecue are provided. The area is home to a variety of frogs and reptiles, such as the ornate nursery frog, chameleon gecko and eastern water dragon. Mammals are represented by possums and wallabies, and birds include the Australian brush-turkey, mountain thornbill, large-billed scrubwren, grey-headed robin, eastern whipbird and the endangered southern cassowary.
