Cairns, Townsville & Mission Beach, Tropical North Queensland on the Great Barrier Reef and surrounded by World Heritage listed rainforest of the Wet Tropics

This is in all probability one of the most beautiful areas of Australia.  Located halfway between Cairns and Townsville with just enough development to provide you with all the creature comforts like shops, fine restaurants and world class island resorts and yet you are surrounded by lush green rainforests which are caressed by crystal clear mountain streams cascading through the palms and ferns on their way over the golden sands of the 14km of pristine beaches and finally merging with the waters of the Great Barrier Reef.  What a journey.  And, if it was you making that journey on perhaps an air mattress, a rubber tube or a inflatable boat, you could very well end up washing up on the sands right out the front of Dunk Island or Bedarra Resorts ... life could be sooo fine!

There is one small negative in all of this ... during the summer months, those beautiful clear waters of the Coral Sea are visited by Irikanji and Box jellyfish.  Mission Beach does have 2 stinger nets for swimming during stinger season, however, they do not offer 100% protection.

And so, the many waterfalls, rainforest swimming areas and crystal clear creek more than make up for this ... have a look through this website band you'll see why.  Within just a few minutes drive of
Mission Beach are many pristine rainforest fed creeks gurgling over pebbles and pooling into shaded lagoons beckoning you to enjoy ...

Is Mission Beach really that nice???

It's hard to get you to believe when you hear reports on the news og how wet everything is up here.  However, you have to understand that the wet up here is not like down south.

We can get 240mm of rain one day and the next day everything is sunshine with most of all the runoff headed out to sea.  If you have a look at the pics of
Laceys Creek and Kellys on Maria Creek in this site, those pics were taken 1 or 2 days after we had about 300mm of rain on 13th Jan 2009.

Of course, there is far more than just waterfalls and rainforest pools in Mission Beach.
Click on this link to have a look at some of the 14km of pristine golden sandy beaches bordered by rainforest and coconut palms that lead to the Great Barrier Reef water of the Coral Sea and nearby islands just offshore from Mission Beach.
